Current Events Discussion

Participants discuss national, local and international** current events.  We aim to provide a place where people can explore ideas and express points of view in an educated and non-confrontational way.

The format of the meetings can be either:

  • a one hour detailed exploration of a topic, led by a group member or members, with the second hour a facilitator-led discussion on various current topics, or

  • a two hour “bring your own topic” session where various members give introductions on very current topics and then lead short discussions on them.

Subject matter is wide ranging. This past spring, we investigated water issues, U.S. and Canadian immigration policies, plastics and the environment, seniors in Calgary and sexual harassment. The sessions are fun, and a great opportunity for some intellectual stimulation, together with socializing with interesting people from a variety of backgrounds.
