Does Nuclear Energy have a role in our energy future ?

Green energy, mainly solar and wind, play an increasing role in our electricity supply. The shortcomings of these sources, mainly fluctuating availability, are often pointed out, especially by green power detractors. Could nuclear energy supply the backstop for green energy while not contributing to GHG emission growth.
