HISTORY AND THE ARTS

A Whirlwind Tour of History and the Arts from Their Beginnings to the Present

This spring, History and the Arts will provide a rapid overview of History and the Arts from their beginnings through to the modern era. Designed for CALL members who are new to the topic and for those who have participated in previous sessions and would like to review and reconnect, History and the Arts will meet on Zoom on May 27 and June 3. On those two dates, we will visually survey the arts through the ages, learning through a combination of viewing the slides, participating in trivia games and discussion. Meeting in person for our final session June 10 will provide the opportunity for participants to present a favorite artwork and thereby offer all of us a chance to appreciate these works through each other's eyes. Throughout the focus will be on discussing how the Arts reflect our past as we look into what historian Barbara Tuchman called A Distant Mirror.
Attendance: Participants can attend when possible - just online or just in-person or both. The goal is to be flexible to accommodate all schedules and mobilities.
