Welcome to the Opera!

The Calgary Opera welcomes all CALL members to their Thursday evening dress rehearsals, as well as their associated learning opportunities,  Opera Buddies and Unlocking Opera.  This season, there are three magnificent performances! Members may choose to attend one, two or all three performances.

The Calgary Opera's range of performances is designed to appeal to veteran opera lovers, as well as members who are new to this musical genre. Typically, dress rehearsals run without any disruptions; however, the director has the right to briefly stop the rehearsal if a correction is required. Southern Jubilee Auditorium performances run approximately 2 ½ hours, including a short intermission.

Once you have purchased your $20 Opera Rehearsal ticket, you may also register for Unlocking Opera and/or Opera Buddies at no additional cost.

Buying Your Ticket:  Three Purchase Options

Reminders:

●     All seats are assigned/reserved when you pay

●     Only the first balcony will be open to guests

●     The Opera encourages you to buy in advance for best seat selection

●     These show rehearsals can be sold out, so please consider purchasing early

Ticket cost: $20.00

●       Online purchase  here. Choose your preferred seat in the theatre and scan your QR code at the door.

●       If you cannot purchase online, buy your ticket and reserve your seat by calling the Opera Box Office at 403 262 7286, Monday - Friday, 12:00 -5:00 pm.  Payment is needed at the time of purchase.

●       Purchase a last minute ticket at the Jubilee Auditorium Box Office on the  evening of the performance.  The Box Office opens at 5:30

Please remember - this opportunity is for CALL members. Children or grandchildren are unfortunately not able to join you.

Learning Opportunities: Unlocking Opera and Opera Buddies

These learning opportunities are optional. If you are interested, after you purchase your rehearsal tickets, please contact the Calgary Opera Education lead, Stephania, sromaniuk@calgaryopera.com or 403-802-3404.  She will register you for Unlocking Opera or Opera Buddies.

Unlocking Opera

Unlocking Opera is professionally led, yet informal, one hour conversation about the upcoming performance. These evening sessions are held at the Mamdani Opera Centre around three weeks before the performance.

Opera Buddies

Opera Buddies is  more in-depth and  is designed for mixed ages. Each Opera Buddies session begins with two classes: an introduction to opera, as well as a primer on the opera you’ll be going to see. You’ll learn what to expect at the theatre, as well as gain insights into what to watch and listen for at the show. After you watch the opera, you’ll return for one more session to discuss what you watched and listen to.
