Poetry Workshop

The focus of this bi-weekly workshop starting in the fall will be to encourage and support those who would like to use poetry to express, clarify and distill experience.   We will meet bi-weekly to read our writing and give feedback in a supportive environment, encouraging and sharing ideas for improvement.  Seed ideas will be provided to stimulate ideas and create focus, but members will be free to write on any subject they choose.  We will begin with an agreement of complete confidentiality to give us the security to express ourselves freely. No experience necessary.

The emphasis will be on self-expression but opportunities for publication will be explored for anyone interested. Handouts on varied aspects of writing poetry will be provided as needed.

Ria Kinzel, the facilitator, has led many poetry workshops over 35 years as a language arts teacher in Edmonton and the United States.  She has been a member of the Blue Light Press poetry workshop for 20 years on and off and at the urging of that group’s facilitator is working on publishing a chapbook herself. She has an MA in Literature and a PhD in Vedic Studies and currently teaches Transcendental Meditation.
