Hamilton - The Book!  The Musical!

In this time of political unrest - especially south of the border - it's difficult to remember that politicians were once revered, and for good reason.  Ron Chernow's glowing biography of Alexander Hamilton (2004) provides an inspirational story for the ages - outcast from the West Indies moves to pre-Revolutionary U.S. and finds himself in the thick of the War of Independence and the creation of the new republic.  Hamilton's efforts were prodigious, including writing over 50 of the 85 Federalist Papers, and establishing the sophisticated U.S. Treasury.  The mega-hit musical Hamilton! is based on Chernow's biography.

This weekly Interest Group will cover the biography section by section and examine parallel portions of the musical, to understand the historical era and to consider the transformation of a written work into a hip hop musical.  Views which contrast with Chernow's view will also be covered.
