Joe Boivin

I joined CALL shortly after I retired from my consulting firm in 2012. My wife and I found the wide range of interest groups to be attractive and found we enjoyed the speakers at CALL Cafe and Treks and Travels among others. It was not long before my concern over the dearth of science knowledge in the general public led me to develop a Science and Environment lecture series with Tom Kerwin’s initiative and guidance. I joined interest groups in health, history, classical music, wine tasting and personal finance – all I had time for. My wife enjoyed some of these, as well as parliamentary democracy, meditation, and aboriginal affairs.

Our careers take up a third of our lives and provide validation, camaraderie and mental stimulation (if we’re lucky!). Filling that gap is important to a happy fulfilled retirement. CALL has provided these things to us in spades and offers new experiences in areas we might never have thought of investigating. We also learn about other interesting lectures and activities going on in the city. Mostly it is about keeping company with interesting fun people with active, inquiring minds.
